How to identify and crush limiting beliefs - Day 6
Updated: May 1, 2019
Self-limiting beliefs are the worst; they stop us from being our best self. For the next 7 days, I challenge you to take on my Crushing Limiting Beliefs Challenge. For Day 6, we talk about a common limiting belief when it comes to our health and share 6 top tips to make the right decisions for our body and our wellbeing.
What are self limiting beliefs?
Welcome to Day 6 of our 7-day Crushing Limiting Beliefs Challenge towards ultimate self-love. Today, I talk about a common limiting belief that relates to our health.
When it comes to health, I believe there are things that we can control and things that we can’t.
One of the first things that we can control is the decisions we make for our health – but processing health information can feel overwhelming, especially if we're feeling sick and vulnerable. So, today I share 6 easy steps that I took on my very own health journey to find the answers I was looking for.
Day 6: I don't understand
There are a lot of common limiting beliefs when it comes to our health. One I often hear is: I don’t understand.
Health is super complex and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed - don't worry we've all been there!
I know a lot of people who beat themselves up because they don't understand - especially if you're receiving a cancer diagnosis or if you're going to some health issues - it's completely normal to feel confused and vulnerable. Even if you go see a doctor that you trust, appointments often fly by so quickly that it might be difficult to take it all in.
Research also shows that we often feel embarrassed to bring up health concerns- especially when it comes to our health "down there". Not talking about our lady parts can stop us from seeking the help we need and bring unnecessary pain and suffering. So, let's look at that together.
Day 6: 6 top tips to make better health decisions
Here are my 6 top tips to help you make the right decisions for your health.
1. Don't get caught up in the web
Most of of what you read on the net about health is pure BS. Avoid feeding your mind with what-if scenarios. Choose where you go to for information or ask your doctor.
2. Prepare your doctor appointments
Jot down questions as they arise. Time flies in a doctor office, so bring your questions in and take notes to make the best out of your appointment!
3. Bring a friend
Bringing a support person to your appointments can be a big help – someone you trust to keep you calm, recall the facts and take notes.
4. No silly questions
When it comes to our body (yes ladies, even our girly parts!) your doctor has heard it all! Something on your mind? Don’t wait for your doctor to bring it up – just ask!
5. Repeat please
It's ok not to understand everything the first time. It's a lot to take in. Don't be shy about asking your doctor to repeat or write things down.
6. Focus on what you can control
Start by asking yourself: what do I need to know to make epic decisions for my health? Stay focused on the things you can control and check out Day 4 on how to make time to nurture your mind and body.
That’s it for Day 6 – I’ll see you tomorrow for Day 7.
